BJP asks Pawar to divert IPL profit to farmers
Mumbai, May 26 (UNI) Maharashtra BJP spokesman Madhav Bhandari today demanded that Union Agriculture minister and BCCI president Sharad Pawar divert some profit that the BCCI is getting from Indian premier league (IPL) cricket matches for the uplift of poor farmers, who are committing suicide due to debt.
Talking to reporters here, Mr Bhandari said in the last five years 4500 farmers had committed suicide in the state.
He said though the central government has increased the loan waiver upto Rs 71,000 crore, so far nothing has accrued to the farmers.
Bhandari said that on one hand the congress-NCP government has banned the dances in bars but money was being spent on getting cheer girls in the IPL matches.
