Summons against Sonia Gandhi by a court in Muzaffarpur

Muzaffarpur, May 22 (UNI) A local court today issued summons to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and two other persons to explain their positions in connection with her alleged depiction as Goddess Durga in posters pasted at the party office in Muradabad district of Uttar Pradesh.

Judge of fast track court Vijay Kumar Mandal ordered to issue summons to Ms Gandhi, Uttar Pradesh Congress president Rita Bahuguna and Muradabad district Congress president Ajay Tarkeshwar Soni either to appear personally or through their lawyers before the court on June 26.

The summons was issued on a petition filed by a lawyer Sudhir Kumar Ojha, who stated that the alleged depiction of the Congress president as Goddess Durga in the party posters had hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindus.

Earlier, the court had issued notice in this regard but neither any of the leaders nor their representatives appeared before the court to explain their positions.
