11 Massacred by 'Black Widow'; train, truck attacked
Guwahati, May 15 (UNI) Black Widow Dimasa militants today massacred 11 people in two incidents as they continued to ravage the North Cachar hills district, attacking goods train and truck convoys.
This morning they attacked a goods train and killed its driver L N Bora at Mupa. About the same time at least 155 km away near Panimur, a truck convoy was attacked where ten people were gunned down and five trucks torched.
The police confirmed that all the ten killed were truck drivers and handymen of the trucks.
Meanwhile, NF railway authorities said they had suspended all services in the hills section, angering commuters of nearby districts as rail is the sole mode of transport there.
Police informed that the latest incident took place at about 0730 hours between Lumding and Mupa railway stations. The Dimasa militants fired at the engine of the goods train killing the main driver on the spot while the assistant driver somehow brought the train to the station.
Two others travelling in the engine of the goods train also got critically injured.
Reports said one of them died in the hospital which also angered the local populace of railway town of Lumding. They stormed the station demanding better security in railway traffic.
Unconfirmed reports said more deaths were feared in the incident as in the Lumding-Haflong stretch the passengers regularly commute in goods train because of poor road condition.
