TDP nominee files petition against EC in High Court

Hyderabad, May 14 (UNI) TDP nominee for the coming by-elections in Andra Pradesh Ramesh Rathod today filed a petition in the High Court against the Election Commission (EC), challenging its decision to reject his nomination papers to contest from Khanapur Assembly seat on the ground that he was convicted in a criminal case.

The Returning Officer rejected the nomination papers of Mr Rathod, who was also the Zilla Parishad Chairman of Adilabad district, yesterday.

Mr Rathod faced trial in a court under Section 352 of IPC for assaulting a forest officer and was convicted. A higher court suspended the punishment but retained his conviction last year.
