HC orders FIR against policemen for assaulting sportsmen

Allahabad, May 12 (UNI) Allahabad High Court today directed the police to register a case against the policemen accused in assaulting three state level tennis players in Sigra station area on Thursday.

A bench comprising Justices Vinod Prasad and Surendra Singh ordered IG (Varanasi Zone) to personally pursue the case.

The court had also ordered the transfer of Singra police station in-charge.

The next hearing of the case will take place in the last week of July.

Inspector General of Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Senior Superintendent of Police and Sigra station incharge and Nagar Nigam Chauki in charge were present in the court.

On Thursday, three state level tennis players were assaulted by the policemen during a vehicle checking drive in Sigra area.

The policemen were attached to lines after the incident was reported, besides initiating an official inquiry against them.

Later, prima facie evidences went against the policemen and they were suspended.
