Sheila urges mothers to ensure timely immunisation of children

New Delhi, May 8 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said the state government was working hard to extend the coverage of Mother and Child healthcare scheme to counter the possibilities of various diseases in newborn babies.

Speaking at the inauguration of OPD services at upcoming Dada Dev Mother and Child Hospital at Dabri, Ms Dikshit said the government would ensure that possibilities of diseases among children were minimised ''as a healthy child paves way for a healthy nation.'' The Chief Minister exhorted mothers to ensure proper immunisation to their children to prevent occurence of diseases. ''Anganwadi workers have also been rendering substantial contribution in providing healthcare to mothers and children,'' she added.

The Delhi government, she said, was concentrating on proper maintenance of hospitals apart from making available latest diagnostic infrastructure.

Speaking on the occasion, Health Minister Dr Yoganand Shastri said hospitals in Delhi were not only catering to the health needs of Delhiites but also to a large number of people coming from neighbouring states.
