Sonia Gandhi promises implementation of manifesto

Bangalore, May 7 (UNI) AICC President Sonia Gandhi today assured that her party was committed to fulfil the promises made in the election manifesto for the Assembly elections in Karnataka.

Addressing a public meeting here, she said the Congress was the only party committed for the overall development of the country.

Referring to IT and BT sector in the state, Ms Gandhi said ''late Rajiv Gandhi had a great dream to build the country as one of the most powerful in the world and he chose to introduce IT and BT.'' ''The opposition parties, which had ridiculed the same earlier, are now trying to take credit for the achievements,'' she alleged.

Referring to achievements of UPA government at the Centre, she said the Congress had taken several measures to protect the interests of oppressed classes in the society and passed the Tribal Welfare Bill.
