Meira Kumar exhorts people to come up together against criminals

Gwalior, May 5 (UNI) Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Meira Kumar today called upon all sections of society to come up together against criminals and in the support of victims without discrimination.

Ms Kumar was talking to reporters after meeting a dalit family at Shyampur village in Ambah tahsil of Morena district. A minor girl of the family was abducted on February 26 but the abductors are still at large.

After the girl's abduction, her brother Rakesh was allegedly burned alive by some people. Police were still investigating the matter and no one has been named accused in the case.

It was reported that the girl was living with Bhind-resident Pooran Singh. However, no action has been taken thus far.

Ms Kumar said she had written to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in this regard but still no action had been taken.

Replying to question, she said the matter could be politically motivated but assured that action would be taken soon.

She claimed that Madhya Pradesh stood second in number of atrocities against dalits. She expressed concerns over the working conditions of dalits in the state.

The Union Minister provided a cheque of Rs one lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh to the girl's father and his daughter-in-law respectively as a part of government relief.
