Murder in broad daylight in Pondy

Puducherry, Apr 21 (UNI) A 50-year-old man, residing in France, was hacked to death in broad daylight in the town limits here, today.

Police said Rajaram, who had come to Puducherry only yesterday, hired an autorickshaw to go to the bus stand. When the auto reached the Mission street junction, a jeep intercepted the vehicle and four people, wielding weapons, forced the auto driver to flee the spot.

They then hacked Rajaram to death and fled the place with his briefcase.

Police suspect that it was a murder to get his property.

The murder had its echo in the Territorial Assembly, with DMK member S P Sivakumar raising it as a special mention during zero hour.

Narrating the incident, Mr Sivakumar wondered why the police department was not taking any action against such crimes. However, there was no reply for the special mention from the Government side.
