CPI activists held for attempting 'raid' on godown

Hyderabad, Apr 18 (UNI) At least 62 activists of the CPI, led by its Rajya Sabha member Aziz Pasha, were taken into custody when they attempted to ''raid'' a godown as part of their stir against spiralling prices of essential commodities.

High drama was witnessed in the LB nagar area here as police physically lifted the activists, shouting slogans against the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre and the Congress government in the state for their failure to bring down the prices of essential commodities.

Addressing the activists, Mr Pasha alleged that the state government remained a ''mute spectator'' to the hoarding of essential commodities by unscrupulous traders, which was mainly responsible for the price rise.

He demanded a ban on future trading in essential commodities to bring down the prices.

The arrested were later released, police said.
