Villagers plan to boycott K'taka assembly polls
Madikeri, Apr 12 (UNI) The residents of Devarakolly village near this town have decided to shut the door on politicians seeking their votes in the election to the Karnataka Assembly next month as even basic amenities had not been provided to them.
A group of 400 villagers gathered before a school at Devarakolli and held a protest shouting 'Devare Nammannu Kolli' (Oh, God kill us).
Teachers, members of the Stree Shakti groups, different organisations and Gram Panchayat members, who also took part in the protest, said, ''the government and peoples' representatives have been totally neglecting Devarakolly and its surrounding villages.
They failed to provide even basic facilities like roads.'' Though the villages are spread on either side of the Madikeri - Mangalore Highway, over 400 residents were not given land records so far.
