SRM to offer direct placements abroad
Chennai, Apr 12 (UNI) In a pioneering move, the SRM University, a leading private educational institution in the country, will offer direct placements in foreign countries to its students through campus interviews by MNCs as in IIMs, University Vice- Chancellor Prof P Sathyanarayanan announced today.
Talking to reporters here after the placement award function during which 1639 students of SRM University from various departments were given placement letters in about 124 companies at its campus in suburban Kattankulathur, he said the package would not be in Indian rupees. ''It will be in Dollars''.
He said the University had already initiated talks with MNCs who did not have any base in India for appointing students through campus interview.
''We are talking to Japanese financial firm Rakautan and Kyushu Manufacturing company. To begin with, we are planning to get placement for ten students from IT branches in each of the two companies. The placements will directly be abroad'', he added.
Prof Sathyanarayanan said SRM would be the first university in the private sector to go for direct placements abroad.
To a question, he said the University would start two new courses -- B.Tech Computer Science and Software Engineering with more emphasis on software engioneering, and B.Tech Geo-Informatics from the coming academic year.
