Issue of election cards in progress

Udupi, Apr 12 (UNI) About 76 per cent of issuance of Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC) has been completed in Udupi district and the process of taking of photos of the fresh voters would continue for some more days at village and taluk levels, Deputy Commissioner of Udupi P Hemalatha said here today.

Addressing a press conference she said the process of updating the voters name for claims and deletions was being continued to enable the voters to exercise their franchise in the coming assembly election, in the second phase slated on May 16.

With the model code of conduct already in force, banners, cutouts and posters have been banned during the period. Strict vigil would be kept on those violating the code of conduct, she said adding the candidates were allowed to erect banners and cutouts at the venue of the meeting only before and after two hours of the meeting.

There will be a total 7, 59, 596 voters in the district, of with women voters outnumbering men 4,06,890 to 3,52,706.

There will be 10,186 first time voters in the district who will exercise their franchise after attaining the statutory 18 years, she added.
