CPM urges GJM to hold talks with Centre and Bengal govt
Kolkata, Apr 12(UNI) Accusing the Gorkhaland agitators of creating terror and driving a wedge between the hills and the plains, the CPI(M) today urged the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha(GJM) to sit for dialogues with the Centre and the West Bengalt Government.
In a statement, party's state Secretary Biman Basu appealed to the people of Darjeeling to protest such activities and said the party was determined to protect peace and amity.
He alleged that carrying out terror acts in the name of movement, GJM supporters were attacking CPI(M) workers and leaders.
He said the agitators also attacked party offices at Darjeeling, Kurseong, Kalimpong and Mirik over the past few days.
''The GJM has been making a sustained effort to destroy the unity between the people of the hills and plains. They are trying to whip up unrest in Siliguri town over the past few days...we appeal to the people of the hills and plains to maintain the ethnic and liguistic unity,'' he said.
While blaming the opposition Trinamool Congress and Congress for being inactive against the move to create disunity among the people, Mr Basu said such a stand was against peace and harmony.
