SC directs authorities to reveal data on environment, health safety
New Delhi, Apr 9 (UNI) The Supreme Court directed the authorities concerned to make public all data that is relevant to deterring environment and health safety including toxicity and all allergenicity data of a genetically engineered plant varity under trial.
A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Raveendran issued directions yesterday on a petition filed by gene campaign.
The apex court also directed the authorities that toxic and allergic effects should be fed into the websites to create awareness among the consumers as well as public at large.
Earlier, Prashant Bhushan, counsil for the petitioner contended that these trials are extremely harmful for the health of the people and also cause environmental pollution and such trials should be banned or at least, people should be made aware of the adverse effects of such field trials.
