Rahul's concern for Dalits a political gimmick: Mayawati

Muradnagar, Apr 9 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today termed Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi's concern for Dalits nothing more than a ''political gimmick'' and said it would not benefit the community in any way.

Ms Mayawati, while addressing a rally here, said despite the Congress being at the Centre and in the state for 48 years and 38 years, respectively, it never took steps for the uplift of Dalits.

However, it was now resorting to political gimmicks to seek Dalit votes as part of which, the ''Prince'' sleeps and eats at the houses of Dalits and after returning home, bathes with a special soap and purifies himself with incense sticks, she alleged.

The BSP supremo added that such political tactics would never remove the poverty of Dalits.
