Mizoram Governor assents to Marriage Act
Aizawl, Apr 9 (UNI) Mizoram Governor M M Lakhera has assented to the Mizoram Compulsory Registration of Marriages Act, 2007, to be enforced in the entire state with effect from April 1 this year.
Official sources said here today that the Governor appointed 698 registrars across the state to carry out the registration and further details could be obtained from the district commissioners' offices.
Commenting on the Act, state Law and Judicial Minister H Rammawi hoped that the new Act would serve as an important solution to the problems regarding inheritance.
The Bill was earlier passed during the Assembly's Budget session last year.
The new law, a follow-up of the Centre's legislation, demands every new couple to register themselves with the government.
