Tirumala, Apr 4 (UNI) Those selling fake laddus in the name of srivari laddus to the pilgrims will land behind bars as the Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has decided to implement the Geographical Indicator Registration (GIR) Act, Executive Officer of Devasthanam K V Ramanachary said today.

Talking to newspersons here, after ''dial your EO programme,' he said the GIR Act enacted by the Union Government in 1993, would be imposed by the TTD shortly to safeguard the pilgrims from falling a prey to fake laddu makers and sellers.

Under the Act, those who sell fake laddu in the guise of world famous Tirumala laddu would be imprisoned with a fine, he said adding that TTD was taking necessary steps to obtain permission from the Union Government to impose the Act.

He said nearly 1.50 lakh srivari laddus were being sold daily by the Tirumala temple to pilgrims.
