Six trucks laden with rice seized at Patrapol
Bangaon, Mar 31 (UNI) Customs sleuths today seized half a dozen of trucks laden with rice, meant for export to Bangladesh at Petrapol under North 24 Parganas.
Police said a clearing agent, identifed as Tapan Exports, had allegedly changed the number plates of the trucks for clearance of the custom's check and to cross the international border.
According to Superintendent of Customs at Petrapol M N Pandey New Delhi has banned export of rice to Bangladesh since March 6.
However, there are some relaxations to such consignments of rice for which exporters had submitted the list of registration number of the trucks to the concerned Customs authorities at Petrapol before March six.
During routine checking six trucks belonged to the Tapan Exports with about 100 tons of rice were seized.
