SC stays Barjinder Singh's arrest till April 22
New Delhi, Mar 31 (UNI) The Supreme Court today stayed till April 22, the arrest of Barjinder Singh, senior vice president of Youth Akali Dal, allegedly involved in the Moga sex scandal.
A bench, comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice Aftab Alam stayed the arrest after hearing the counsel for the petitioner who contended that his client was innocent and had been falsely implicated in the case.
The apex court also issued notices to the CBI on the petition filed by Singh, who is the son of former Punjab Minister Tota Singh.
Singh is facing allegations of shielding a culprit after accepting Rs 50,000 from the accused.
The petitioner, however, contended that how can he protect anybody when he is not holding any office of authority either in the government or in the CBI and there was no question of the petitioner accepting any illegal gratification from anybody.
