Five sentenced to 10 yrs imprisonment for theft
Howrah, Mar 31 (UNI) Five persons were today sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 was imposed on each for theft and murder.
While announcing the verdict, Howrah District Additional Sessions Judge B K Bandhopadhyay said they were found guilty under section 396, 412, 120(B) of IPC and that on failure to pay the fine, their sentence will be extended by six months.
On November 23, 2004, a businessman was travelling with another person on his motorbike, when six miscreants, including the businessman's driver, attacked them at Mandirtala near Vidyasagar Setu here.
The miscreants fired at the duo, severely injuring the businessman, who later died in the hospital.
The businessman was carrying nearly Rs five lakh in cash and a cheque of Rs 1,20,000.
The individual, who had accompanied the businessman on his motorbike, had identified the six miscreants, who were eventually arrested and the money recovered from them.
However, in due course of the proceedings, one of the miscreants had been released due to lack of substanital evidence of his involvement in the case.
