1 kg heroin recovered from Rajasthan-based smuggler

Amritsar, Mar 31 (UNI) Amritsar police have recovered 1 Kg heroin from inter-state drug smuggler based in Seekar district in bordering state of Rajasthan.

Acting on a tip-off that a consignment of heroin from Rajasthan would be smuggled into Punjab, the police put up a check-post near Meeri-Peeri Academy Sub Sahib road Chheharta, a release said here today.

At about 0445 hrs, police intercepted one Indica car coming from Jahbal side, driven by Bhanwar Lal, who on being signalled to stop, tried to spedaway.

However, police foiled his escape attempt and nabbed him.

During the search, 1 kg heroin in polythene packet wrapped in a cloth was recovered from his possession.

Further investigations were on to nail the person to whom the consingment was to be delivered.

A case under section 22/61/85 NDPS Act had been registered at police station Chheharta Amritsar, the release added.
