CBI orders attachment of witnesses property in Chekkanur case
Kochi, Mar 29 (UNI) In a rare direction, the CBI special court, Ernakulam has directed the CBI to attach the properties of the witnesses in the Chekkanur Maulavi case.
The court had allowed the plea of the CBI to attach the properties following the witnesses failure to appear in court.
Even though summons and warrants were issued against the witnesses, they had not turned up. These included Kakkad Aliyar, Manaf, Faizal and Abubacker Haji.
It has been reported that they were abroad. The Interpol also expressed the inability to produce them due to technical reasons.
The CBI maintained that they were crucial witnesses and cannot be given up.
Chekkanur Maulavi, a progresive religious leader was killed and the case was handed over to the CBI for investigation.
