Consultative meeting on nanotechnology organised

Dehra Dun, Mar 27 (UNI) The Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun today organised a consultative meeting on 'Nanoscience and its applications in Forestry'.

The meeting was addressed by experts from IIT Roorkee, ISI Kolkatta and CSIO Chandigarh.

During the meeting, experts dwelved on new opportunities which nanotechnology has opened up in the field of forestry and allied sciences.

Talking to UNI, Director, FRI, Dr S S Negi said nanotechnology was a relatively new subject in the country and efforts to tap its full potential were still being realised. He said the FRI was the first in Asia to undertake this venture on such a large scale.

Dr Anil Kumar from IIT Roorkee said nanotechology offered tremendous future possibilities in forestry research, with its usage in textiles, food and pharmaceutical industries.

Themes such as Nanoscale devices, Systems and nstrumentation, Methodology and Techniques for preparation, characterisation&handling of nanoparticles, Understanding and Characterisation of Nanostructures from natural origin and Application of nanoparticles in development of smart materials were discussed.
