Vandana wins battle of life; rescued by army

Agra, Mar 26 (UNI) After a wait of 27 hours, two-and-a-half-year-old Vandana won the battle of life today after being rescued by an army team form a 45-foot-deep boring well in village Tehra of Saiya area here, where she had fallen yesterday evening.

The girl was now recuperating at SN Medical College and was likely to be discharged tomorrow morning.

Vandana had accidently fallen into the boring well that was temporarily covered with mud.

Hearing her shrieks, the villagers tried to save the girl, but on failing, brought the matter to the notice of the administration.

Army was pressed into service after police team failed to save the girl.

Army jawans had dug a parallel pit at a distance of 5 ft, and managed to bore about 42-foot-deep pit till this morning.

The jawans first dug the pit with machine and then with their fingers, but unluckily, the girl slipped down to 2 ft where she was stuck earlier.

The rescue team, comprising medicos, had been continuously supplying oxygen, glucose and few eatables through a rope to the minor.

In an akin incident two years back, the Army Jawans had rescued one Prince of Haryana from a well.
