CPI urges new Pak Govt to grant clemency to Sarabjeet
Hyderabad, Mar 26 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) today adopted a resolution at its 20th National Congress, urging the new Pakistan Government to grant clemency to death row inmate Sarabjeet Singh, whose clemency petition was turned down by the country's president recently.
Observing that the granting of clemency to Mr Sarabjeet would help in improving relations between the two neighbouring nations, the CPI leaders said the Pakistan Government has shown a good gesture by postponing his hanging for a month.
''Now, the new Gvernment may show another good gesture by granting him clemency, as he has suffered due to misplaced identity and has already served long years of imprisonment,'' the resolution added.
