Delhi Police arrest rapist of 8-year-old girl

New Delhi, Mar 20 (UNI) The Delhi Police today said they have solved a blind abduction-cum-rape case by arresting a taxi driver in this connection.

They said police had received a report from a person on March 17, stating that his eight-year-old daughter had been abducted from Anna Nagar cluster.

Several police teams were formed to trace the girl and finally she was located near the jhuggis at around 0700 hrs next morning.

The girl was sent for medical examination, which confirmed that she was raped, police said.

In her statement, the victims had said that she was taken to an unknown place by the accused in a car and sexually assaulted there.

The girl said the accused later abandoned her at the M G Road.

Police suspected the involvement of a taxi driver in the crime and zeroed in on some of them after scrutinising several stands in central, New Delhi and South districts.

Following sustained investigations, police arrested 30-year-old taxi driver Bhagwan Das who later confessed to having committed the crime. He used to run the taxi in Chanakyapuri.
