Each MIG-27 aircraft loss worth Rs 6.79 crore: Antony
New Delhi, Mar 17 (UNI) A total of two MiG-27 aircraft crashed during the past two financial years (2005-2006, 2006-2007) and in the current year (2007-2008) till March 10 with the average loss amounting to Rs 6,79,00,000, the Lok Sabha was told today.
Defence Minister A K Antony said a MiG-27 aircraft crashed at Hashimara airbase in West Bengal on January 31, 2008.
He said two MiG-27 aircraft crashed during 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 till March 10. No pilot or co-pilot lost their life in these accidents, the Minister added.
He said each crash is investigated through a Court of Inquiry and remedial measures undertaken accordingly.
The average financial loss incurred due to crash of one Mig-27 aircraft is Rs 6.79 crore, Mr Antony said in a written reply to Lok Sabha member Mohan Singh.
