PM new Chancellor of Visva Bharati University

Santiniketan, Mar 15 (UNI) President Pratibha Patil today appointed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as the new Chancellor of Visva Bharati (VB) University here.

VB Registrar Manimukut Mitra told mediapersons here that a release from the Human Resource Development ministry has informed the university about Dr Singh's new role as the University Chancellor.

According to a Visva Bharati Act, the University's executive council panel can recommend only three names for the post.

Mr Mitra informed that the panel had suggested the names of Dr Manmohan Singh, former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam and former Chief Justice Leela Seth for the post.
