M S Dhoni turns out highest tax payer in Bihar-Jharkhand region

Patna, Mar 14(UNI) With Team India Captain M S Dhoni becoming the highest individual Income tax payer in the current fiscal(2007-08), the Bihar and Jharkhand region has registered the highest growth in Corporate tax collection in the country.

This was informed here today by Chief Income Tax Commissioner, Bihar and Jharkhand, S K Sinha while speaking to newsmen about the region's stupendous success in terms of tax collection during the current fiscal vis-a-vis last year.

He said following sustained efforts a total amount of Rs 2,034 crores had so far been collected as direct and indirect tax revenues from both corporates and individual assesses since April 2007, thereby recording over 100 per cent growth only in corporate tax collection here in just one year time.

Quoting official figures about the overall performance of the Bihar-Jharkhand Income Tax department during the current financial year in accordance with the latest directives of the Centre, Dr Sinha said after overshooting last year's target of Rs 1,879.10 crores by Rs 155.10 crores, the region had been given a fresh collection target of Rs 2,746.47 crores during this year.

''We are all set to cross this target too before March 31 this year'',Dr Sinha emphasised.

He said though the department was yet to finalise the list of highest tax payers and largest defaulters in both corporate and individual tax assesses in Bihar and Jharkhand region,'' as per the latest figures Mahendra Singh Dhoni had paid the highest amount of Advance tax individually''.

Dr Sinha, however, refused to divulge the exact figure.
