CPI(M) urges TN to reconsider milk price hike
Chennai, Mar 12 (UNI) The CPI(M) today urged the Tamil Nadu government to reconsider the hike in prices of milk as it puts additional burden on the common man.
CPI(M) State Secretary N Varadharajan in a release here said a resolution to this effect was adopted at the State executive meeting of the party here.
At a time when the people were put to hardship by the rising prices of essential commodities, the hike in the prices of milk would pose additional burden on them.
The government's stand that increase in the procurement price following demands from milk suppliers resulted in hike in the price of milk supplied to the consumer was not acceptable, he added.
The state government should increase the subsidy component of milk as it did in respect of rice and wheat when the Centre hiked the prices of items supplied under the PDS and reconsider its decision.
The meeting also condemned the recent killings of CPI(M) workers at Kannur in Kerala and the attacks on the party offices in New Delhi and Bangalore allegedly by the BJP and RSS workers and urged the Centre to take stringent action against those involved in it.
''The attacks are an affront on democratic forces and the Centre should take steps to stop such acts of divisive forces'', he added.
