New Delhi, Mar 11 (UNI) State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Ltd (ONGC) today said it has joined hands with Teri for clean up of oil spills in farmers' field and around oil installations and treatment of oily sludge hazardous hydrocarbon waste.

The joint venture known as ONGC-TERI Biotech Ltd (OBTL) will use large scale application of microbial product Oilzapper for the clean up process, a company statement said.

A memorandum of understanding was signed between Director, Enterprise and Technology Development, TERI, M M Joshi and GGM and Head Corporate HSE, ONGC, V K Jain.

ONGC will use Oilzapper, MEOR and Prevention of paraffin deposition technologies in its various installations, assets, basins and plants and other such technologies to be developed by OTBL in future.

The JV will also provide Oilzapper, MEOR and Prevention of paraffin deposition technologies to ONGC and other oil companies in India and abroad especially countries in West Asia.

In OTBL, TERI has 47 per cent share and ONGC has 49 per cent and the rest remaining with financial institutes.

Currently, ONGC is practicing scraping of oil well tubing, which is costly. Prevention of paraffin deposition in oil well tubing by using microbes will offer a cost effective approach.
