CPI(M) nominates T K Rengarajan for RS polls

Chennai, Mar 10 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) today nominated party Central Committee member T K Rengarajan as the party candidate for the March 26 Rajya Sabha polls from the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

CPI(M) sources told UNI the name of Mr Rengarajan was cleared by the party high command.

CPI(M), a constituent of the DMK-led DPA in Tamil Nadu, had been allotted one seat for the biennial elections.

Of the six seats that would fall vacant on April 2, the DMK chose to contest two seats and allotted two to the Congress and one to the CPI(M). The Opposition AIADMK had the strength to contest one seat.

The DMK yesterday announced A A Jinnah and Vasanthi Stanley as the party candidates for the polls, slamming the doors on another ally, PMK, which had been demanding a seat.
