Vice-President terms 1857 revolt a ''revolution"; releases book
New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) Vice-President Mohammad Hamid Ansari today described the 1857 revolt as a ''revolution'' which failed because it was not ''sufficiently organised'' and many people did not join it.
Mr Ansari was releasing a book ''war of Civilisations: India AD 1857" authored by journalist Amaresh Mishra at a function here. The book is in two volumes -- The Road to Delhi and the Long Revolution.
He said by writing such a voluminous book the writer had done a great service to the nation.
The book showcases a West, the West that has never been seen, an Asia, which Asians are unaware of and a story of the 'Indian Mutiny' which has never been told before.
Former External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh and Mr Salman Khurshid were among those present on the occasion.
