Bungling of Rs 16 cr in purchase of papers for Delhi Textbook Bure
New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) Alleging a textbook printing bungling of over Rs 16 crore in Delhi, the State Bharatiya Janata Party today demanded that Lt Governor Tejender Khanna order a CBI inquiry into such a big paper supply scam and dismiss Education Minister Arvinder Singh lovely and other officers responsible for it.
Addressing mediapersons here, Delhi BJP president Harshvardhan said the Delhi Bureau of Textbooks, situated at Janak Puri in West Delhi, had invited tenders in the last week of January for purchase of papers worth Rs 16 crore for printing books for the schools this year. Dr Harshvardhan alleged that the contract for bulk purchase was given to some selected paper mills at the instance of the Education Minister.
''Such conditions were deliberately included in the tender so that this work could be given only to the favourite firms,''Dr Harshvardhan said.
The Delhi BJP chief alleged that though under the tender specification, the supply of maplitho papers of 80 gms and 70 gms were to be done in bulk, the mills, with connivance of the Government and the education Minister, supplied low grade papers in place of the papers mentioned in the specification for sharing of money among the corrupt people.
''Many presses are printing textbooks in various parts of Delhi on these low grade papers. These books printed on low grade papers shall be provided to the children which shall not last more than two to three months,''Dr Harshvardhan said.
The BJP leader claimed that if the CBI conducted raids on all the presses and recovered papers then the reality of the scam would come before everyone automatically and the corruption of crores of rupees being commited for the last nine years may be exposed.
''The loot is continuing for the last nine years during the congress rule,''he alleged.
