Stop ''making efforts'' on Ram Sethu demolition: Vardhan to Centre
New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan today warned the Centre to halt its efforts to demolish the Ram Sethu, or else face the ''wrath'' of the people.
In a statement here, Mr Vardhan alleged that the Manmohan Singh government was not concerned about the sentiments of the people and was playing the communal card to ''appease'' minorities.
Reacting sharply to the Budget presented by Finance Minister P Chidambaram, he said the allocation of Rs 1580.07 crore for the demolition of the Ram Sethu had hurt the sentiments of people.
Blaming the government for playing ''dirty tricks'', Dr Vardhan claimed the Centre chose February 29-- which was the Budget day-- to file an affidavit in the Supreme Court to avoid the attention of people.
He said the 60-page affidavit stated that the best way to build a canal was to demolish Ram Sethu. ''The government is working in an anti-Hindu manner. The affidavit has urged the Apex Court to vacate the stay order on the demolition of Ram Sethu so that the construction of the canal can go ahead,'' Dr Vardhan claimed.
