BJP decries acquisition of land for Ganga Expressway
Varanasi, Feb 28 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party Kisan Morcha president Ram Naresh Rawat today said his party was not against the Ganga Expressway, but acquisition of fertile land on both sides of the way.
Talking to newsmen here, Mr Rawat said " the state government was planning to acquire fertile land of the farmers on both sides of the way and sell it at throwaway prices to capitalists." If commercial establishments would come up on both the sides, then not only pollution into the Ganga river will increase, but also lakhs of trees would be cleared, he noted.
Mr Rawat said that Bundelkhand was facing drought for the past five years and people there were striving hard to earn bread and butter.
He flayed the Mayawati government in the state for failing to protect the interests of cane farmers.
