Srinagar, Feb 18 (UNI) Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a major partner in the coalition government of Jammu and Kashmir, has demanded magisterial probe into police action against people who were demanding restoration of power supply in north Kashmir.
The PDP general secretary Nizam-u-Din Bhat strongly condemned police action against peaceful demonstrators, demanded magisterial probe into the incident.
He said police burst teargass shells and resorted to baton charge besides fired several rounds in the air on demonstrators who were demanding restoration of that electric supply snapped due to heavy snowfall.
Instead of addressing genuine demand the brute force was applied and this would not be tolerated in a democratic set up, Mr Bhat said.
He demanded strong action against the guilty police personnel.
''Demanding power supply was not a sin or offence, he said adding that police action against the peaceful demonstrators can not be tolerated in any civilised society.
