No baby swapping at AIIMS; DNA tests confirms parentage

New Delhi, Feb 18 (UNI) An AIIMS DNA today confirmed that the day-old girl, whose parents had alleged that their male child had been swapped with her at the hospital, was the biological child of the same couple.

Mr Ayush Gupta and his wife Premlata, in their complaint filed at the AIIMS police post, had alleged that they were first told after cesarean delivery on February 14 that they had a male child, but later the staff handed them a girl.

''Confusion was created by some unknown persons that the baby, delivered on February 14 at 0305 hrs, was male... The DNA test report confirmed that the female baby belonged to the same parents,'' AIIMS spokesperson Y K Gupta said.

He said an inquiry was being carried out to take action against people ''responsible for creating the confusion''.

AIIMS is displaying an advisory in the wards for parents to seek any information about their babies from their respective doctors.
