Prime Minister and Gandhi to campaign in Meghalaya
Shillong, Feb 17 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi will lead the party's election campaign in Meghalaya.
Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee President OL Nongtdu said Ms Gandhi would lead the campaign trail at Jowai and Tura on February 23, while Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, is scheduled to kick-off the campaign at Shillong on February 27.
Ms Gandhi will also launch her campaign trail at Tura assembly constituency where in former Lok Sabha Speaker and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, PA Sangma is in the fray.
Mr Sangma had decided to return to state politics in view of the political instability during the last ten years.
Meghalaya has witnessed seven-coalition government in the past ten years.
AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, however, is yet to fix his itinerary to tour Meghalaya.
The Congress has fielded candidates in all the 60 assembly constituencies, with Chief Minister DD Lapang seeking his re-election from Nongpoh constituency and Assembly Speaker Martin M Danggo from Langrin constituency.
