Mumbai belongs to everybody: Patil
New Delhi, Feb 16 (UNI) Home Minister Shivraj Patil has asserted that the government would take all steps to provide security to people belonging to every community in Mumbai as the city belongs to everyone.
In an interview to a private TV channel, Mr Patil without naming the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) or its chief Raj Thackeray said ideology of the kind propagated by them is narrow-minded.
Mr Patil's statement comes in the wake of recent agitation against North Indians in Mumbai by MNS and resulting violence.
''It was not necessary for anybody to say that people from outside should not go to Mumbai. Mumbai belongs to everybody, and Mumbai should be allowed to be used for everybody," Mr Patil said.
''We will see that not only Maharashtrians live there but anybody who wants to live there will be given full protection and f full security," he said.
Ruling out the retaliation against Marathi people outside Maharashtra, Mr Patil said Marathi people are also secure in all parts of the country.
''People who think like this are in a miserable minority, and we don't have to be worried by some people whose thinking is narrow and limited,'' he said.
