Farmers' talks with Governor fail, to launch jail bharo
Bangalore, Feb 16 (UNI) Sugarcane growers in Karnataka will launch 'Jail Bharo' agitation from Monday as the 'final' round of talks with the Advisor to Governor Rameshwar Thakur, on the issue of fixing of higher MSP for their produce, 'failed' here today.
Speaking to UNI, State Farmers' Association working President Kodihalli Chandrashekhar said the government had failed to heed to their demand of announcing a minimum support price of Rs 1100 per tone of sugarcane and as decided earlier the farmers would go ahead with their agitation plans.
He said that farmers leaders held a meeting with Governor's Advisor V Krishnakumar but the official could not give any concrete assurances.
The advisor, while appealing us withdraw the 'Jail Bharo' agitation promised that by Monday government will come to a conclusion and make an announcement on the issue.
"We have communicated to the state government that if the state government's announcement was in accordance with farmers demand, the agitation would be withdrawn or else it will go on as per our earlier programme," he said.
