Jus(retd) N C Sil appointed to probe Dinhata police firing
Kolkata, Feb 14(UNI) The West Bengal Government has appointed Justice (retd) Narayan Chandra Sil of Calcutta High Court to probe the February 5 Dinhata police firing that killed five Forward Bloc activists.
Home Secretary Prasad Ranjan Ray today told reporters that the panel would submit its report to the government within six months.
The terms of reference would be announced on Friday, he said.
Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had announced few days ago that a judicial probe would be ordered.
The police firing took place during a law violation programme of the Forward Bloc in front of the SDO office at Dinhata in North Bengal's Cooch Behar district. Police said the mob, that turned violent, attacked police and damaged government property.
A policeman, beaten up by the mob, also succumbed to injuries the next day.
