Action sought against 'fraud' woman
Puducherry, Feb 12(UNI) Villagers from several areas today picketed the Villianur police station, demanding action against a woman for allegedly cheating them to the tune of several lakhs of rupees.
Ms Sumathi, hailing from Villianur Kottaimedu collected Rs 6000 each from over 450 villagers of Kottaimedu, Kadapakkam, Marakkanam, Hanumanthai and others, on the promise of arranging bank loans for mushroom cultivation, in October 2006, agitators alleged.
Later, when they grew suspicious over the 'promise', they went to her residence. Though she issued cheques for amounts ranging from 40,000 to 90,000, her account 'forzen'.
Meanwhile, Ms Sumathi lodged a complaint with the police that the villagers were threatening her. Subsequent to this, they picketed the police station, demanding action against Sumathi.
