RWAs demonstrate against functioning of monitoring committee
New Delhi, Feb 11 (UNI) The Resident Welfare Associations (RWAS) of Delhi today held a demonstration in the city protesting the functioning of the Monitoring Committee, appointed by the Supreme Court on the issue of sealing and demolitions in the city.
Led by former Union Minister Vijay Goel, the RWAs alleged the Monitoring Committee was functioning in an autocratic manner.
Addressing the protestors, Mr Goel said,''in the Constitution, the Judiciary, Executive and Legislature have different powers. The presence of the Monitoring Committee in the last three years intervenes in the rights of the Executive and Legislature.
Once the Master Plan has been implemented where is the need for the Monitoring Committee. It should be scrapped.'' Alleging that the Monitoring Committee was working in an arbitrary and unconstitutional manner, Mr Goel said,''it surpasses all government orders and MCD notifications. It is working as if it has more power than the Supreme Court.
It does not hear any arguments or appeals whereas the Supreme Court allows an appeal.'' The BJP leader said that if everything was to be done by the Monitoring Committee then why the officials in DDA, NDMC and MCD were being paid high salaries.
