NHRC notice to Gujarat Govt, seeks report about Patan rape case
New Delhi, Feb 11 (UNI) Taking cognisance of reports about the alleged rape of a girl student by six teachers in Gujarat, NHRC has issued a notice to the state Government and sought a report within four weeks.
The state Chief Secretary and Director General of Police have been directed to respond to the notice about the incident in Patan which triggered protests among students and parents who went on a rampage and beat the accused.
Commission chairperson S Rajendra Babu said if the allegations are found to be true, then it amounts to serious human rights violation.
The incident came to light when the victim, who collapsed during the morning prayers in the college campus, was taken to a doctor where she revealed that she was a victim of sexual abuse for the past six months.
Police have arrested all the six accused teachers.
