Let Taslima stay in India: Justice Iyer to PM
Kochi, Feb 11 (UNI) Former Supreme Court Judge Justice V R Krishna Iyer today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to permit Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen to stay in the country.
In a letter to Dr Singh, Justice Iyer wrote ''Taslima should be allowed to stay in our 'hallowed country' for reasons of compassion and humanism.'' Claiming that India, if united, was great without 'military mendicancy' he said '' India is the largest buyer of arms in the world and yet we claim Gandhiji as the Father of the Nation.'' He also stressed the importance of 'less arsenal of borrowed weapons' and more friendly relations with the neighbouring countries.
