SC declines to stay institution of Judicial inquiry
New Delhi, Feb 8 (UNI) The Supreme Court today declined to stay the institution of a Judicial inquiry by the M Karunanidhi government to probe an alleged land grabbing case.
A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Raveendran issued notices to the State Government and TN chief secretary to respond within four weeks to the allegations made in the petition filed by T Chitra challenging the institution of an inquiry.
According to the State Government, 53 acres of land belonging to dalits have been illegally grabbed during the tenure of AIADMK government in the state headed by J Jayalalithaa.
The AIADMK supremo is one of the main suspects in the alleged land grabbing case. The land is situated on the outskrits of Chennai.
The petitioner has, however, stated that the institution of the judicial inquiry was malafide, illegal and politically motivated.
