Six sentenced to life, 18 acquitted in murder case
Puducherry, Jan 30 (UNI) A local court today convicted and sentenced six people to life imprisonment and acquitted 18 others in a Jayakumar murder case.
Puducherry Second Additional District Judge Annamalai, who pronounced the judgement, said the 18 were acquitted as charges against them was not proved.
On March 26, 2004, Jayakumar, an accused, who was chased by a gang, entered the Mudaliarpet police station. The gang exploded a country bomb inside the police station killing Jayakumar on the spot.
Police had arrested 25 people in connection with the incident.
While 12 were imprisoned as undertrials, others were granted bail.
One accused, who jumped bail was yet to be traced.
The judgement in the case was deferred four times before it was pronounced today.
