Russia opposes unilateral actions on Kosovo
Moscow, Jan 29 (UNI) Russia today warned the UN and some Western countries against taking unilateral actions on the Kosovo issue and called on them to refrain from taking steps that can create ''a destructive precedent''.
''We are hoping that the UN General-Secretary and our other partners realise the destructive implications of unilateral scenarios and actions violating the UN Charter and will refrain from taking steps that can create a destructive precedent for international relations,'' the official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Mikhail Kamynin said in a statement.
He said Russia plans to react appropriately to attempts to settle the Kosovo issue outside the UN Security Council.
''Sideline preparations by Western countries, including direct pressure on the UN Secretary-General and the EU president, to send an EU mission to Kosovo and to strengthen the military component of the peacekeeping operation have been publicised recently,'' he pointed out.
''Such actions make us seriously concerned and require an adequate reaction,'' Mr Kamynin said.
